Ruston mayor hospitalized after contracting COVID-19
RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker is being treated in a hospital after contracting COVID-19.
According to a spokesperson, Walker tested positive last week. He decided to go to the hospital a few days later on Saturday, July 24.
City officials say he was admitted and is currently being treated. They say he is doing well and has not been put on a ventilator.
The spokesperson told KNOE that Walker contracted the Delta variant. Walker was vaccinated, but vaccination does not make you immune to the virus. It greatly reduces your chance to get sick. For those who get sick, it can also reduce the severity of the illness.
Mayor Walker is expected to be released on Wednesday, July 28.
