MONROE, La. (KNOE) - There’s a resurgence of COVID-19 in Northeast Louisiana.

On Monday, July 26, 2021, a new death was reported in Madison Parish. This brings the total number of COVID-positive deaths in Madison Parish to 41.

In Northeast Louisiana, over 500 new COVID cases were reported. Monday’s report includes multiple days worth of data that was collected over the weekend.

In Louisiana’s Health Region 8, which includes Ouachita and the surrounding parishes, COVID-positive hospitalizations have risen by 12 over the last week.

  • July 18: 42
  • July 25: 64

As hospitalizations rise across the state, hospitals are beginning to once again restrict visitation and put less important procedures on hold. These restrictions will vary across the state and it’s likely they will change with the ebb and flow of the COVID numbers, so check with your hospital before you go.

Vaccination Rates

30.44% of Northeast Louisiana residents have been fully vaccinated. If you include people who have received the first dose of a two-dose vaccine, that number rises to 33.74%.

Of the nine health regions, ours (Region 8) is among the bottom three when it comes to vaccination rates. The New Orleans area is around 48% while the Baton Rouge area is 33.63%.
