EL DORADO, Ark. (KNOE) - The City of El Dorado is hosting a free family fun event called Summer on the Square this Saturday, July 24, 2021, kicking off at 11 a.m.

The streets of downtown El Dorado are filled every fourth Saturday during the summer.

The event will have live music, grill wars, and a reenactment of a gunfight called Showdown at Sunset. There’s also going to be a car show, blood drive and COVID-19 vaccine event for anyone who’s interested.

Organizers say it’s exciting to have these events back in action to help the city’s local businesses.

“Last month for June, we had 30 steak competitors, and they were from eight different states besides Arkansas,” said Main Street El Dorado executive director Beth Brumley. “As far as stores, it’s a huge impact. Economically, they eat and shop here. For those grilling competitions, a lot of times they’ll come in Friday night because they start so early with the competition. So that’s hotel stay, so it causes tax revenue, as well as supporting our local businesses.”

The night will end with a glow party and more music at the Murphy Arts District.

There will be one last Summer on the Square event in late August.
