BASTROP, La. (KNOE) - The Morehouse Parish School District is hosting a job fair in hopes to fill multiple positions.

With more retirement than previous years, Morehouse Parish School District is looking to hire.

“We are looking specifically for hard-to-staff areas. This would be secondary English language, arts, secondary math, social studies, and science as well as special education. We are offering stipend incentives for new hires in high-needs areas,” Personnel Director Teresa Merritt said.

If someone has a Bachelor’s degree, the district is offering tuition reimbursement for those enrolled in alternate teacher preparation programs.

Bastrop High School needs biology, math, and agriculture teachers.

“We’re fully prepared to work with people that are new to the field of education that may not have any experience at all, but they have the willpower and the desire to make a difference in children’s lives. So we’re fully capable of working with those folks and ready to embrace them,” Bastrop High principal Chris Broussard said.

BHS principal Chris Broussard says they are looking for people who have a passion for teaching and truly care about the students.

“We are a school on the rise. This district is a district that’s on the rise, and the community is ready to fully embrace the education system and to use this as a pivoting point in this community. So you will be coming into a place that is ready to embrace you, as a professional that’s ready to nurture you and grow you into your full potential as a teacher,” Broussard said.

The district has established a professional learning community in all of the schools.

Teresa Merritt says new teachers will not be alone.

“Even as a new teacher coming in, this is what I could say, we’re really proud of being able to train new teachers. Even if they do leave us, they feel like they have the necessary skill set because they were in a place where they were really supportive,” Merritt said.

The district wants people that will bring a positive impact to the community.

The job fair is set for Friday, July 9, 2021, at the Bastrop High School gym from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On-site interviews will be available at the job fair. Candidates are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resumes for each school or department.
