WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A local organization is raising money for our troops this Independence Weekend.

The Blue Star Mothers of Northeast Louisiana held a quilt raffle drawing in West Monroe.

The group also honored Fredna McBride who makes and donates quilts for care packages.

They raised more than $3,000 dollars. They say it’ll go toward sending those boxes to military members currently serving overseas.

“People want to support us because they know that 100% of their donation goes to what we’re doing and this particular fundraiser is for postage. It costs us about $8,000 to send out 400 packages,” Blue Star Mother Jayme Watson said.

The Blue Star Mothers say 400 troops from our area are deployed right now.
