MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On June 24th, President Biden agreed to a $1.2 trillion deal with a bipartisan group of senators. Although many of the details remain unknown, Congresswoman Julia Letlow is speaking out and hopes Northeast Louisiana will benefit from it.

Letlow hopes the bill includes funding for rural broadband, something she ran on.

She says broadband is crucial for our state, especially after the pandemic.

The $1.2 trillion proposal includes $579 billion in new spending.

Broadband infrastructure is proposed to have $65 billion in funding.

“Nothing like a pandemic to bring to light, how important how crucial rural broadband is to my district. Talking about education, you talk about health care, over 350,000 people in Louisiana don’t have it. I don’t have it in Start, Louisiana, my tiny town. So it’s so important that we work together and explore every avenue possible to bring rural broadband to those communities that need it,” Letlow said.

Letlow says she is hopeful a significant part of the money will be allocated for this area.
