Oak Grove looking to improve broadband access
OAK GROVE, La. (KNOE) - The town of Oak Grove is looking to speed up broadband access for its citizens.
Mayor Adam Holland has a signed a consulting contract with V1 Fiber to complete a needs assessment study. They will help the town begin applying for funds to implement affordable broadband coverage.
V1 Fiber has already seen success in delivering better broadband coverage for Grosse Tete and Ville Platte.
Holland says better broadband has been a need in Oak Grove for years with extremely slow internet in residential areas of town.
“When and if this project is to take place, this is going to be huge for the town of Oak Grove and for our citizens and possibly could be the conduit for some really good things economic development-wise for our community,” Holland said.
Holland says this project is in the very early stages, but he hopes to take advantage of some of the money from the American Recovery Program.
