MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Prepare to defend yourself from summertime scammers. Jo-Ann Deal with the Better Business Bureau says there’s been an influx of scams happening in recent summers.

RED FLAG: Deal says if they ask you to pay with gift cards, pre-paid debit cards, or wire transfers, that’s a red flag.

Deal says other common scams in the summer are home improvement scams and energy company scams. Those can include grants for repair work or people threatening to turn off your lights.

RED FLAG: Deal says any time there’s urgency in an offer, including threats, it’s probably a scam.
