MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Barak Shrine Temple in Monroe is hosting the South Central Shrine Association (SCSA) Convention this week. It starts June 3 and runs through June 5, 2021

Groups from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana will be part of the event.

June 4 they’ll have the Motor Corps Competition at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe. It starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon. They’ll have a parade starting at 9 a.m. June 5 through Antique Alley, followed by their annual Clown Competition at 10 a.m. at 111 Cotton Street.

Cash Melville with the Barak Shriners says the event was supposed to be in Lake Charles this year, but since they’re still in bad shape, the Monroe organization is hosting it this year. They hosted the convention back in 2019, and usually, it’s an event that organizations can only host once about every ten years, so they say it’s special that the area is playing host again so soon.

Last year, Melville says they couldn’t have their circus with the pandemic, so they’re excited to have that back later in August.
