MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Better Business Bureau has a reminder about product warranties. Jo-Ann Deal with the BBB of Northeast Louisiana says you should always research a product before you buy it. She advises consumers to look into things like the average lifespan of the product, what’s likely to go wrong with it, and how hard it would be to fix any issues.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released a report this year showing that many companies had repair restrictions on their products, making it harder for you to get something fixed. You can report complaints to both the BBB and FTC’s websites.

The BBB says even if you buy a product from a door-to-door salesperson or at a space other than the business, the salesperson is required to give consumers copies of the written warranties before the sale is completed.

You can find more information about warranty issues on the FTC and BBB’s websites. You can also call the BBB of Northeast Louisiana at 318-387-4600.
