LifeShare and KNOE team up for Ouachita Parish blood drive
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - LifeShare and Monroe area hospitals are experiencing a critically low supply of blood. On April 29, KNOE and LifeShare partnered for a blood drive at Frenchman’s Bend Country Club in Ouachita Parish.
Typical blood usage ranges from 40 to 60 units a day. Right now, hospitals are in need of 100 units a day. The increase is because people are finally getting elective surgeries that were postponed due to the pandemic.
LifeShare Regional Director Brandon Baker says doctors are making some tough decisions because of the low supply of blood.
“Right now, we are at a point where we are rescheduling surgeries and having to have those tough conversations with patients about blood availability and that’s something we never want to do,” Barker said.
To donate blood, people must bring a photo ID and be at least 16 years old with a parent’s permission form or 17-years and older without permission.
