Suspect arrested after April 5 homicide in Monroe
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Monroe police say they have arrested a man suspected of murder.
On Monday, April 5, 2021, shortly after 2:30 a.m., MPD says officers responded to a shooting in the 1600 block of Crescent Drive. MPD says the shooting activated the Shot Spotter detection system sending officers immediately to the scene.
MPD says Rakeem Newell was found at the scene. He had been shot several times and died as a result of his wounds.
Antavian Rucks was identified as a suspect. Rucks was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder.
