PAWS of NELA asking golfers to sign up for their tournament
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - PAWS of NELA is getting back in the swing of things with their “Putting for Paws Charity Golf Tournament” on April 19, 2021.
The last year has been tough for many nonprofit organizations because their fundraising events had to be canceled during the pandemic.
“With COVID-19 and a lack of funding we, at one point, had to shut down our spay and neuter program,” explains Staci Choate with PAWS of NELA. “So, fortunately, we have been able to open that back up to be able to help people in the community. We had to like slow down our rescue pulls, slow down sending our animals north in our rescue program, we had to just make major changes to the way that we fundraised, the way that we assisted the community, and we’re just ready to be back.”
This year they had to cancel their Mardi Gras parade due to COVID-19, which is another big fundraising event for them, so this tournament is going to be their first big fundraising event since COVID-19 started.
“It’s $100 per player and we do teams of four, 100% of that goes to us,” explains Choate. “0 to 100 can play as long as you can swing a club, that’s fine, we’ll also provide you golf carts.”
They’ll start playing at noon, and Choate says the whole family is welcome.
“We’ll your tally scores, we’ll do prizes, we’ll do awards, we do have a few games planned, we’ll have a marshmallow game, we’ll have a closest to the hole game, and hole in one game.”
“If you don’t want to play we do have sponsorship opportunities, you can sponsor a hole for $100. You can be a beverage sponsor, be a game sponsor, be a title sponsor,” says Choate.
She says they’ll still play if it’s raining, as long as it’s not thundering and lightning.
