MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Authorities in Monroe are investigating a fatal shooting.

According to a press release, the shooting happened on the evening of Feb. 22 in the 400 block of Standifer Avenue.

Officials say 38-year-old Marvin Lewis was killed in the shooting. Another person was injured and treated at a hospital.

“When you lose a good person like that, it’s hard. Because he didn’t deserve the cards he was dealt,” Keshea Greely said.

Greely said she practically raised Lewis and has known him his whole life. She said his death comes as a shock to everyone.

“When I was young coming up, we didn’t have any guns. I used to love to fight. Just to see and challenge my hands, but if you beat me, I’m going to fight you every day. You’re going to have to fight me every day until I win. Then the next couple of days we’re back friends, but it’s not like that anymore,” Greely said.

Greely said it’s time for the people in this community to put the guns down and stop reverting to violence.

“Two families are going to lose. The family that lost the person and your family lost because they lost you. Nobody wins out of it,” Greely said.

Greely is asking for people to continue praying for Lewis’ family as they try to come to grips with his untimely passing.

“It’s hard losing somebody you love unexpectedly, but it’s a part of life. We all have to leave here. We all have an expiration date, but we just don’t know when,” Greely said.
