MONROE, La. (KNOE) -More help for families with sick children is on the way, thanks to a new partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities and St. Francis Medical Center. The two organizations are teaming up to keep families with sick children close to each other and the care they need.

Tuesday, the groups announced a new partnership, the “House within a hospital.” The initiative is designed to help keep families with sick kids in the hospital under the same roof.

Families will stay on the fourth floor of the hospital, which already includes the delivery wing and NICU. Aimee Kane, the vice president of strategy & business development at St. Francis Medical Center, said during times of hardships and sickness, a sense of family is what’s most important.

“We recognize that the medical crisis involving children are really frightening and emotional and can be very traumatic to both the family and the child. This partnership concept is the first and only in Louisiana. It will also us to bring a sense of home to the families, infants, and children and help ease some of their burdens.”

Construction begins this fall and should be done by next spring.
