MONROE, La. (KNOE) - COVID-19 hospitalizations in Monroe and the surrounding parishes are the highest they’ve been since the pandemic began, according to the latest data from the Louisiana Dept. of Health.

LDH Region 8 hospitalizations hit a record high over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. On Nov. 29, LDH data indicates 124 area residents remained hospitalized as of Saturday. This follows a record-setting high of 129 on Friday. 118 area hospitalizations were reported for the prior two days. (LDH Region 8 map)

Before this week, the previous high was 117, on July 27. Things began to look good after the summer and that number was down to 60 by Sept. 23. It would get no lower that fall. COVID-19 hospitalizations rose steadily through Oct. 20, fluctuated for a couple of weeks and then began another relatively steady rise on Nov. 8.

Statewide, hospitalizations continue to rise. On Nov. 29, the state reported 1,196 hospitalizations. Over 600 residents of Northeast Louisiana have lost their lives, the state says.
