WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - West Monroe is closer to getting an indoor sports facility.

Officials say the Board of Aldermen agreed on Tuesday to hire local architect Tim Brandon to design the 18 to 20 million dollar facility. The facility would be located near the Ike Hamilton Expo Center and be used for indoor sports and tournaments.

Mayor Staci Mitchell says the City would sell bonds to finance it and the bonds would be paid off with sales tax money already being generated by a special economic development district. It was created over a year ago to promote growth within that district.

The project is a joint endeavor between the City of West Monroe and the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
