MONROE, La. (KNOE) -The Ouachita Parish clerk of court office is predicting same-day voting numbers will be similar to those early voting numbers previously seen across the country. Poll commissioners across the state have been through orientation and are ready to receive those voters.

The Ouachita Parish election officials discussed how the ballots will be counted. Dana Benson, The Ouachita Parish clerk of court met with other election officials at the registrar of voters to talk about how they are going to divide up the ballots for counting.

Benson says this happens every year, but this election is different because more people are casting ballots.

The board plans on meeting at 9 am on election day (Tuesday, November 4th) to begin opening ballots.

Shortly afterward the secretary of state’s tech officers will arrive and start feeding the ballots into the voting machines for the official count.

Benson said they were also hard at work getting the poll commissioners and commissioners in charge ready for the big day.

“The worst thing that I expect that may happen would be a commissioner or commissioner in charge wakes up in the morning ill.. then we have to immediately start finding replacements so for those commissioners that weren’t selected to work you may be expecting a phone call at any given moment in the morning to replace someone," she said.

The polls are open on election day from 6 am to 8 pm. Make sure you are in line to vote by 8 pm, if you are, don’t leave, you will still get the chance o vote. You should also make sure to bring a photo id with you like a driver’s license or passport for verification.
