Adopt a Pet: Rolly!
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - We’re back at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter doing another Adopt a Pet segment with Roxanne Smith with PAWS of Northeast Louisiana.
Friday, October 23rd, we’re introducing you to Rolly.
“Rolly is about 2 years old, he is a beautiful black cat, the most loving cat he doesn’t seem to have met a stranger,” explains Smith. “And Rolly is kind of a good story to talk about because Rolly was adopted from the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter as a kitten and he was found a few weeks ago on the side of the road, he was hit by a car.”
She says he’s doing much better now, but his story highlights an important issue: microchipping your pets.
“Rolly was microchipped which is great but his owners have moved and changed their information so that now what happens when you scan Rolly’s microchip is the information is incorrect so we can’t contact the owners,” says Smith.
That’s why she says it’s crucial for you to contact the microchip company to update your contact information and your address.
There are so many other wonderful pets you can adopt at the shelter, including livestock occasionally, so just stop by during normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). In our previous segments, the shelter was asking you to call ahead to make an appointment, but now you don’t have to.
Kim Tumlison with OPAS, says they do encourage you to call ahead before making the trip there if you have a dog or cat you’re specifically interested in. You can see all the pets at the shelter by going to petango.com.
Their phone number is (318) 323-4032.
