LINCOLN PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Authorities have identified the people involved in a shooting that happened Oct. 14 in Lincoln Parish.

According to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 9:16 p.m. on Barker Drive. 57-year-old Jeffery Omar Owens was found dead in the road. Authorities say he was shot by 34-year-old Jimario Brien Arthur.

LPSO says the preliminary investigation revealed Owens and Arthur, relatives, were involved in a verbal argument earlier in the evening. Arthur eventually returned home but was pursued by a group of individuals. Among those was Owens. LPSO says a fight broke out and the shooting happened.

LPSO says, at this point, witness statements and related evidence indicate Arthur was acting in self-defense. They say no warrants have been sought at this time and the case will be turned over to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review.

“This is a tragic result of a family argument that went too far,” said Sheriff Stephen Williams. “Both families' lives have been changed forever because of this incident.”
