Man accused of carrying gun on La. Delta Community College campus
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Police say they’ve arrested a man who had a gun on the main campus of Louisiana Delta Community College.
According to arrest records, 24-year-old Damion McKoin, of West Monroe, was arrested on Oct. 13, 2020.
Campus police say McKoin was in the parking lot when they noticed an extended magazine from a handgun sticking out of his pocket. Police say McKoin then removed the handgun, which was a small semi-automatic pistol. Police say McKoin appeared to be talking to a student at the time.
Records state that the officer exited the building as multiple people entered a white Honda Accord. The officer says he drew his handgun and ordered the people out of the vehicle, but the vehicle sped away.
Police say McKoin later returned with the white female juvenile who was driving. McKoin reportedly told police there was only a BB gun in the car, but it was now gone.
The officer says he placed McKoin under arrest, but McKoin refused to comply until threatened with a taser.
McKoin was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on the following charges:
- Illegal carrying of a firearm
- Carrying of a firearm on school property
- Resisting an officer
- Failure to appear (theft) x2
