Monroe man accused of shooting at teens riding bicycles, striking one

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old accused of shooting at a group of teenagers riding bicycles in Monroe, hitting a 14-year-old.

According to court records, Monroe police responded to the shooting in the 1300 block of S. 1st Street on the afternoon of Sept. 11, 2020. Police say the 14-year-old who was shot had to be air-lifted to Shreveport for treatment. Police say spent 9mm and .40 caliber shell casings were found in the area.

Billy Leshun Coleman is suspected of being one of two shooters who fired upon the four victims. Court records state that a second shooter was involved, although records did not identify this suspect.

Coleman was arrested on Sept. 15 during a separate investigation. He was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of attempted second-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
