Clinic owner arrested after investigation into Monroe doctor
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Another arrest has been made in connection with the case of a Monroe doctor accused of illegally prescribing controlled substances to multiple patients.
Arrest records indicate that Gary Michael Stamper, 44, was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on Sept. 15.
Stamper’s arrest follows that of Dr. David Scott Burkett, who was booked on over a hundred drug-related charges following an investigation by Louisiana State Police.
Investigators say Stamper had filled over 20 prescriptions written by Dr. Burkett from May 15, 2019, to April 30, 2020. Police say Stamper received over 1,500 Percocet pills, among other things.
Investigators also say they believe Stamper committed prescription fraud at the clinic he owns, which was identified as Premier Family Walk-In Clinic in West Monroe.
Stamper was booked on:
- 41 counts of obtaining CDS by fraud
- 7 counts of attempt and conspiracy
Bond was listed at $360,000.
