Louisiana Tech University offers free Covid-19 testing to Ruston Community
MONROE, La. (KNOE) -The Louisiana Department of health along with Louisiana tech university are providing free COVID-19 testing for students, faculty, staff, and members of the Ruston community.
Walk-up and drive-through testing will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for two weeks. Volunteers from the Pineville Army base made this testing site possible. Testing may continue beyond the two week period depending on the number of tests administered. About 80% of people tested have been La tech students, faculty, and staff. Some students say that COVID testing is another added level of protection in addition to the measurements already in place on campus.
Chrissy Dolittle, a freshman at the school says that she’s comfortable with the precautions the school has put in places like social distancing and smaller class sizes. “I think as long as if everyone was to get symptoms and was to quarantine and not go out it should slow down the spread a lot”. Gabriel Capetillo a senior added, “most classes are hybrid now but I feel like the way that everybody has been handling it has been really professional and everybody’s been handling it well in my opinion.”
Testing is self-administered.
Individuals who want to be tested can pre-register online at DoINeedACovid19Test.com. Registration is not required for testing but it will speed up the testing process. Results will be available three to five days after the test is administered.
