MONROE, La. (KNOE) -The NOVA workforce Institue of NELA, in partnership with Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) have announced the opening of the new Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) in Monroe.
The NOVA Workforce Institute of Louisiana helps families with things like housing, financial literacy, and even food.
Sixteen hundred people have already been through the program and over one thousand people have been placed in living wage jobs with benefits and a career path.
Today it opened a new center in Monroe where people can learn a variety of services that will help them find and retain work.
The Financial Opportunity Center is working to expand services to rural communities here in Northeast Louisiana.
The FOC’s focus is the financial bottom line for low to moderate-income individuals.
The program has been in operation for 12 years and Juanita Woods, the Deputy Director & Director of Programs Participants Services says there’s no shortage of services.
“You know, We’re teaching credit restoration we’re teaching credit repair, how to do household budgets, balance sheets so it’s all-encompassing and we’re in a position that as we’re counseling and meeting with our participants if their need for other income support services like if there’s a need for health care or food benefits or housing all of that is a part of this program so it’s really just a great time for those here in Northeast Louisiana.”
The new financial opportunities center plans to help more than 50 individuals and families in the first year with custom financial stability.
