Laura now blamed for 6 deaths in Louisiana, including Jackson Parish resident

JACKSON PARISH, La. (KNOE/WAFB) - At least six deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Laura as of Friday morning, according to officials.

Four people were killed by fallen trees. Among those, was a man in Jackson Parish. He was identified as a 51-year-old man who died after a tree fell on his home.

An official with the governor’s office confirmed that a 14-year-old girl also died after a tree fell on her family home. This happened in Vernon Parish. Acadia Parish Sheriff K. P. Gibson confirms that a man in his 60s also died from a fallen tree.

According to an Associated Press report, a 24-year-old man died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator inside his residence. Another man died after his boat sank.

At time of landfall, Hurricane Laura was one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Louisiana in modern history.
