ALERT: Many roadways in the ArkLaMiss are still blocked by downed trees or power lines. Authorities advise you avoid driving around unless necessary. If you do have to travel, do not go around barricades and remember to treat all non-functioning traffic lights as four-way stops.

LAURA’S STATUS: TROPICAL DEPRESSION

The remnants of Hurricane Laura unleashed heavy rain and twisters hundreds of miles inland from a path of death and mangled buildings along the Gulf Coast, and forecasters warn of new dangers as the tropical weather blows toward the Eastern Seaboard this weekend. HEAT ADVISORY: A heat advisory is in effect until 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Rain chances are also in the forecast. The heat index will be near 105 for both Friday and Saturday. Check out the heat advisory here.

ENTERGY MAKING PROGRESS

GOTC WATER RESTORED

Greater Ouachita Water Company says it’s restored water service for its customers. It did so in less than 24 hours. Read the update here.

WATER AND RATION DISTRIBUTION

Water and ration distribution points have been set up in multiple locations in Northeast Louisiana. The locations are open on Aug. 28 (Friday) while supplies last. Get a list of locations here.

HURRICANE-RELATED FATALITIES

According to officials, as of Friday afternoon, 14 people have died as a result of Hurricane Laura, including one in Jackson Parish. Click here to read more about the first six, including one who was among five killed in a generator-related incident.

SCHOOL CLOSURES ON FRIDAY
