Man accused of home invasion, battery of elderly couple in Ouachita Parish

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - A Monroe man accused of forcing his way into an elderly couple's Ouachita Parish home and committing a sexual battery.

According to an arrest report for Arenta Martell Berry Jr., 41, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident in the Town and Country area around 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 12.

Deputies say a man knocked on a carport door, which was answered by the male victim. The report states that after requesting and getting some water, the man pushed the male victim to get inside. He's then accused of going into a bedroom and sexually battering a female victim.

The report states that the male victim grabbed a cane and hit the intruder several times in the head. The intruder then ran away.

Deputies say a man matching the intruder’s description was later found walking on Old Sterlington Road. They say this man identified himself as Arenta Berry. The victims and two witnesses identified Berry as being at the crime scene, the report states. Berry denied committing the crime.

Berry was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on a charge of home invasion, simple battery, and misdemeanor sexual battery.
