LSU’s new contact tracing program includes West Monroe call center
WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Louisiana State University has started a new contact tracing program and one of its call centers is located in West Monroe. Vice President of Operations Chris Brown said if anyone gets a call from the Louisiana Department of Health, they should take it seriously.
Caseworkers are reaching out to people who may have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. They will ask questions regarding who they’ve been around within six feet for more than 15 minutes.
The caseworkers have also been asking people if they need assistance such as healthcare, housing, and food.
“The reception to this program has been very good because again, the main focus here is not to have someone on the other end of the line feel embarrassed or ashamed because anyone that you come in contact with could be experiencing this virus,” said Brown.
Call agents work closely with Johns Hopkins Hospital to learn more about COVID-19 and understand how it’s transmitted. They’ve also been trained on privacy and data security, so all information will be kept confidential.
Brown said having a call center in Northeast Louisiana has provided opportunities for jobs and has helped them be an asset in how they communicate with others.
“I think that the people in our community really have got a good sense of coming together and helping for the greater good which is what makes this opportunity for Coast and Northeast Louisiana such a good fit,” he said.
Brown said they make the wellbeing of the people they reach out to a priority. He said the virus can affect anyone and everyone should accept their responsibility in helping to stop the spread by following social distancing guidelines and the governor’s mask mandate.
