MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Brett McMurphy with Stadium reported Friday afternoon the the Southwestern Athletic Conference was expected to announce the cancellation of fall sports on Monday.

KNOE reached out to President of Grambling State University Rick Gallot for comment. Gallot called the report “unsubstantiated conjecture.”

“There has been no pre-determination of that,” Gallot said. “We are scheduled to meet again on Monday to assess the current surge and obviously...the COVID-19 situation that we’re currently dealing with, but no pre-determination has been made.... I don’t know the sportsperson who has made that statement but they have no basis for it as again we’ve not met yet to have that have that discussion.”

The Tigers’ football season opener against South Carolina State has been canceled following the MEAC’s decision to suspend its season yesterday.
