Crash claims the life of bicyclist in Ouachita Parish
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Authorities say a bicyclist is dead after a crash in Ouachita Parish.
According to Louisiana State Police, it happened around 9:30 p.m. on July 2, 2020, on La. Highway 838 near La. Highway 617.
Police say 66-year-old James Cobb was riding his bicycle east on La. Highway 838 when it was hit from behind by an eastbound vehicle. Cobb sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police say Cobb's bike did not have lamps or any reflective devices. The crash is still under investigation and toxicology tests are being done.
State police add:
Louisiana law states no person shall operate any bicycle on a state highway, parish road, or city street at any time between sunset and sunrise unless such bicycle is equipped with lamps and reflectors.
