MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Monroe Transit System has added three new buses to its fleet.

Monroe Transit General Manager Marc Keenan said the buses cost about $450,000 each. He said each bus has a sheet of plexiglass to help protect the drivers from COVID-19. Keenan said most buses in the fleet have the barriers as well, save for a few smaller ones in which the glass has not come in yet.

Monroe Public Works Director Tom Janway said he’s proud of where the fleet stands.

“Not too many years ago, we had a lot of folks complaining about our transit system. But I challenge you, go find a small transit system that is as high-tech and has a good fleet such as the city of Monroe. You will not find another system our size that has such a good fleet on the road,” he said.

Keenan said they’re ordering about four more buses to replace some of the aging parts of the fleet as well.
