Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office steps-up K-9 training

Posted: Updated:

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News & OPSO) - A Ouachita Parish K-9 Officer is now trained to assist in the search for missing children and elderly persons.

Popeye, a black Labrador Retriever, is a 6 year veteran of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s K-9 corps. He is assigned to S.C.A.T. for use in narcotic searches.

Recently, Popeye and his handler, S. P. Dy. Wayne Singley, received additional specialized training. This K-9 team is now trained and certified to search for missing children and elderly persons, as well as items used in a crime. Training in these areas is a valuable tool for deputies to have available for these type searches.

Popeye will continue his role assigned to S.C.A.T., but is also available for these type searches when required.
