HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - An early morning fire this week at a Hot Springs apartment building has displaced at least 45 residents.

Authorities received a report of a fire at the Village Square Apartments around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. An American Red Cross spokeswoman in Arkansas says an emergency stay in hotels has been provided for 30 people. She says casework will continue for the remaining 15 people to meet their needs.

A sergeant with the Garland County Sheriff's Department was injured during the fire while he was helping residents evacuate the building. He was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

The Lake Hamilton Fire Department said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
