Jindal accuses education department of improper contracting

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration says the Department of Education appears to have repeatedly sidestepped requirements of Louisiana procurement laws on testing contracts.

The criticisms were levied in a letter sent Wednesday to Education Superintendent John White, in an ongoing dispute over testing aligned with the Common Core education standards.

The allegations involve contracts that go back over 11 years, covering three superintendents, and that earlier were approved by the governor's contractual review office.

They come the day before Jindal and White are scheduled to have a meeting about standardized testing plans for the next school year.

White says the education department followed procurement law.

The Jindal administration started digging into the education department's testing contracts after the governor sought to stop Louisiana's use of the Common Core and its tests.
