Monroe Police action plan released

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- The internal problems of the Monroe Police Department could be solved.

The mayor laid out on the table the action plan he believes will make the department better.

Chief holmes and the mayor both agree that communication hasn't always been the greatest, they plan to fix it to make citizens safer and officers happier.

Other key issues that were mentioned in the presser was man power on the streets. The action plan proposes the department will add 8-12 new officers in the last quarter of 2014 and first quarter of 2015. The department currently has nine job vacancies.

The action plan also list ways Holmes plans to improve police-community relations. The department will launch a brand new interactive website later this month.

The website will allow citizens to check the crime maps, get reports, and case statuses.

Also in today's press conference Mayor Mayo announced the Monroe Police Department will be joining the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, State Police, and the West Monroe Police Department on a multi jurisdictional task force.
