Col. Rob Maness speaks out on major issues

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) -  A retired colonel in the United States Air Force, Rob Maness also has years of experience in the energy sector, but he has no political experience. He says that's what makes him perfect for the job.

“I have a 2 year old grandson and I want him to inherit the United States of America, not the United States of something else. And I feel like I have a responsibility to make sure he has that opportunity,” Maness said.

On the issues, Maness leans far right.

He doesn't believe in any type of amnesty for illegal immigrants and says our borders should be secured immediately.

He also believes health care should be privatized and the Affordable Healthcare Act repealed.

"De-fund it. Pull it out by the roots," Maness said.

Maness wants to do away with the IRS. He says that government agency has become too powerful. And he says the Environmental Protection Agency is over reaching. He says it's policies hurt Louisiana's biggest industries like agriculture and oil and gas.

"We should be drilling and producing energy in the oil and gas sectors as much as we possibly can, and we need to eliminate those types of regulations," Maness
Maness says his platform is simple: liberty, prosperity to achieve the American dream and the certainty of a national defense.

Maness is only one of several candidates in this U.S. Senate race.

U.S. Representative Bill Cassidy, State Representative Paul Hollis and libertarian Brannon McMorris are also vying to unseat incumbent Mary Landrieu.
