UPDATE: Victims identified in Hwy. 34 crash

UPDATE 5 p.m.:
Louisiana State Troopers have identified the two women involved in a crash on Highway 34 Saturday morning.

A 2013 Toyota Camry, driven by 79-year-old Anne Jarmon of West Monroe, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 34 when it attempted to pass another vehicle traveling east. The Camry was unable to reenter its travel lane before striking a 2008 Toyota Yaris, driven by 63-year-old Margaret McDonald of Eros, that was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 34 head on.

Jarmon was wearing her seat belt, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to a hospital in Shreveport. McDonald was wearing her seat belt, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE 2 p.m.:

Police are still searching for the crash victim's next of kin to notify them of her death.  LSP tells our reporters that the driver at fault was attempting to pass another car and couldn't get back over into her lane when she hit an oncoming car. She is in a Shreveport hospital, while the driver hit died at the scene.

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - State Police have confirmed one fatality in a crash on Highway 34 in Ouachita Parish.

Details of the crash have not been released as of 11:30 a.m.  Trooper Albert Paxton has confirmed at least one person has died from injuries sustained in a head on collision near Philpot Road on Highway 34.
