Louisiana inmate captured in Mississippi after weekend escape

Posted: Updated:

AMITE, La. (AP) - A 20-year-old escaped inmate, who was being held in connection with a fatal shooting in February, is back in custody.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards says Verdale Moore was recaptured Monday with help from his detectives and the Pike County, Mississippi, Sheriff's Office, which on Monday found Moore at a home in Osyka, Mississippi.

Moore had escaped Sunday night from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite. He is awaiting extradition back to Louisiana.

Details surrounding Moore's arrest will be discussed Tuesday during a press conference at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.

Moore was initially arrested after a drive-by shooting that killed 37-year-old Sandra Butler of Independence, in February.
