President's academy kicks off at ULM

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Fifty- one students from all over the south moved into the dorms on ULM’s campus, to attend the President's Academy. And the faculty welcomed students with a reception.

The President's Academy program is highly selective, choosing students based on their GPA and ACT scores.

The university selects 40 to 60 of the applicants.

The students will get college classroom and real work experience in the program.

President Nick Bruno said the academy is a good recruiting tool for the university.

"Many of these students have never come to ULM. Many don't know where ULM is located or anything about us. It allows them to focus on who we are, what we do, to visit the campus, to see the community and of course participate in the local businesses," Bruno said.

The academy will run through the end of the week.
