MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Families of the WWII heroes from Ouachita Parish who lost their lives in the war gathered for a special Fourth of July monument unveiling.

Crews worked cranes to lift into place the new WWII memorial earlier this week. The memorial sits right  beside the Korean and Vietnam memorials near the semi circle at the Monroe City Hall.

It bares the names of more than 160 soldiers who gave their lives for our country during the war.

The local chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution picked up the cost of the monument. It was part of the group's 100th anniversary.
