MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, Thursday announced a $79,515 grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Program to support Collinston’s Ward 8 Fire Protection District 1.

The grant awarded today will provide the fire department with critical equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources vital to protecting the public and personnel from hazards during a fire. Sen. Landrieu secured this funding as the author of the bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security for FY14.

“Firefighters risk their lives every day to protect our friends, families and neighbors. During fires and emergencies, they deserve to have the best equipment to get the job done,” said Sen. Landrieu. “The quality of their response equipment can literally mean the difference between life or death. This grant will ensure Collinston’s firefighters will have the tools and training they need to keep their community safe.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration, administers this competitive grant program.
