Richwood Aldermen upset with administrator

Posted: Updated:
RICHWOOD, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Image being an elected official in a town and not having any say in its financial decisions. That's exactly how some members of the Richwood Town Council say they feel.

On Wednesday, they called a special meeting to talk about the town's budget and they're throwing blame at the town's court appointed fiscal administrator, Jonald Walker.

Many of them say he just won't work with them.

"Perhaps we have the wrong man to help with our financial difficulties, is my thinking," Councilwoman Margie Davis said.

Walker, who lives in South Louisiana, was not present for this latest meeting.

And the town council said he hasn’t been to any other town meeting for the past few months.

However, we’re told his has been in the area recently.

The council and mayor said Walker did make himself available to meet with each council member, one to one.

But some said that's just not good enough.

"I do know being in the business world that when you do have round table discussions, you do some brain storming, and things you haven't thought about. It brings ideas to your mind," Davis said.

"I don't know why he wants to meet with us. Is there something he has to hide? Or is it something he is hiding?"

But, Mayor Alvin Jackson said Walker is willing to work with council members.

"The town is under a fiscal administrator, so that gives the administrator the powers to do the budget himself. He doesn’t need the board. He doesn’t need the mayor," Jackson said.

Jackson said Walker only asked the board to look over the budget as a courtesy, and at the end of the day, he doesn't need the board’s approval. He also said Walker will remain the fiscal administer until the town is financially stable.

Walker is required to report to a judge every 90 days.
