Copper thieves "pray" on area churches

MONROE, La. .(KNOE 8 News & OPSO) - The Ouachita Sheriff’s Department and Crimestoppers of Ouachita needs the public help in locating the suspects responsible for air conditioning unit thefts at two area churches.

The first incident was reported in early June at the Mount Calvary Baptist church located at 913 Beverly Street in Monroe. Unknown suspects removed copper and other valuable parts from within the external air units and fled the scene. The units were damaged beyond repair during the theft.

A second burglary happened at the Philadelphia Word Church located at 115 Arnold Street in Monroe in late June. The suspects damaged several external air units at this location and removed the copper parts. These units were also damaged beyond repair and were valued at several thousand dollars.

As of this time there are no suspects or leads in either case. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ouachita Sheriff Department at 318.329.1200 or Crimestoppers at 318.388. 2274 (CASH). Crimestoppers will pay up to $2000 for information that leads to a felony arrest or grand jury indictment in this or any other felony case in Ouachita Parish.
