Judge upholds Ball police chief firing

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - State District Judge George Metoyer has ruled that the town of Ball acted prudently in their termination of Ball police officer Nathaniel Ussery.

Metoyer denied a preliminary injunction requested by Ussery's attorney, Olita Magee of Lafayette.

This is the second time Metoyer has ruled in favor of the town since Ussery filed suit May 21 - the day after he was terminated during a Ball town hall meeting at which he was not present.

At that meeting, the town of Ball determination that Ussery violated the Ball Police Department's standard operating procedure when in April he placed in the Cenla Shrine Circus program a campaign advertisement announcing his candidacy for police chief.

Ussery and his attorney have 90 days to file an appeal.
