Garden District flooding

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Residents in the Garden District woke up this morning to a very wet nightmare.

Carol Parker says the drainage in her yard has always been a problem, today the temporary bayou on her front lawn made her really angry.

Bringing up the question, were the pumps working?

According to pump supervisor, Charles Westrom the pumps were fully operational.

"The stations were properly manned too," Westrom said.

Westrom did explain that during today's heavy rain one pump did have technical difficulties.

"We lost a pump for a brief period of time. We were able to repair it and get it back online," Westrom said.

Westrom says even with the set back, the rain in the garden district came too fast in too little time.

The Rochelle Pump Station serves a good portion of the Garden District. It has two main pumps and a back-up pump that's in need of repair.
The funds to repair the back-up pump have been approved by city council.
