Lafourche looking at boat ramp trash

Posted: Updated:

THIBODAUX, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Lafourche Parish officials are urging residents to make an extra effort to keep local boat launches clean.

When residents don't pick up their trash, parish Recreation Manager Jennifer Dufrene, says the boat launches turn into dump sites.

At Tuesday's Parish Council meeting, Councilman Mike Delatte plans to introduce ordinances for signs that read, "No Dumping - $500 fine" at the Bill Taylor, Sanchez, Theriot, Larousse and Thibodaux boat launches.

Dufrene says launches in Delatte's district have been more "problematic areas," because they are high-traffic areas.

On Tuesday, the Parish Council will also discuss prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages within 300 feet of parish-owned recreation facilities.
