Original story:

EROS, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Jackson Parish couple was found dead in their home this weekend in an apparent murder-suicide.

Early Saturday morning, Jackson Parish deputies responded to 965 Flat Creek Road after a child called 911 reporting gun shots.

There, officers found James M. Smith, 50, shot and killed his girlfriend Amanda Gail Henderson, 32, then killed himself.

Sheriff Andy Brown says the two had been living at this residence for about a year, and Henderson had three children in the house. One of those children made the 911 call. The children have been placed with relatives.

Brown says drugs and alcohol could play a part in a motive. The bodies have been taken to Little Rock for an autopsy, although police say the causes of both deaths were evident. The investigation continues.
