Alabama dentist facing Medicaid charges

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - State officials say a southwest Alabama dentist is facing Medicaid fraud charges.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange said Dr. William Britt Morris on Thursday turned himself in to Montgomery County authorities and was released on $30,000 bond.

The attorney general's Medicaid fraud control unit presented evidence to a Montgomery County grand jury, resulting in a 59-count indictment on June 13.

The charges allege that Morris acted with his partner, Dr. Jimmy C. White, to defraud the Alabama Medicaid Agency of about $500,000.

Strange said White has pleaded guilty to one count of attempted Medicaid fraud as part of a plea agreement. He's expected to serve a year of probation and must repay $36,813.

Prosecutors said the dentists have offices in Butler and Grove Hill. It wasn't known Thursday whether they have attorneys.
