Lemonade Day winners announced

Posted: Updated:

LOUISIANA (KNOE 8 News) - Last month, more than 20,000 youth across Louisiana participated in the state's fourth annual Lemonade Day on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Immediately following Lemonade Day, participants were encouraged to submit their business results information via the Lemonade Day website. This form is used to properly document how each participant tracked their business results on Lemonade Day.

In addition to the business results form, participants were encouraged to enter an online contest for the "Best Looking Lemonade Stand." Contestants competed for the greatest number of Facebook likes for their stands. There were more than 150 entries for the "Best Looking Lemonade Stand" contest, but only three winners.

All winners will receive a gift basket from Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and the Facebook winners will receive merchandise from the New Orleans Saints. Lemonade Day is a free, community wide program that fosters entrepreneurship and character development among Louisiana's youth by supporting them in establishing and operating their own lemonade businesses. Young entrepreneurs are provided with a free backpack which contains detailed support materials, such as an Entrepreneur Workbook, Marketing Tips, and Caring Adult Guide, to help them establish their lemonade stand. These "lemonaders" are advised to spend a little, save a little and share a little, donating a portion of their proceeds to a local charity of their choice. After covering their expenses and paying back their investors, children are encouraged to open a youth savings account. Registration is free and all youngsters are encouraged to participate.

Lemonade Day Louisiana was founded in 2010, by entrepreneurs John Georges and Todd Graves and has grown tremendously over the last few years. Over the past four years, Lemonade Day has attracted more than 65,000 youth across Louisiana. Thousands of lemonade stands were set-up throughout the state. These young entrepreneurs donated thousands of dollars to charity. Louisiana is one of over 40 regions in the U.S. and Canada to participate in Lemonade Day.
